Cartastrophe

What happens when you buy a nice used car, keep it in good order for a year and a half and then avoid getting it serviced for another year? Unfortunately, I know the answer to this question.
I am the owner of a six year old Audi A3 – a lovely car if I do say so myself. It has served me well on my daily commute up the M50, delivering me in comfort and style. How do I repay such kindness, with neglect and thrift. I have fallen foul of one the ultimate false economies. Leaving the poor thing to rattle itself into a dishevelled state has landed me with a bill of epic proportions.
I must admit I was expecting a heftier than usual bill, but the post 100,000 mile car always has a few surprises for its owner.
What can I say? I am to blame. I am the elder lemon of this relationship. I am supposed to be the wiser of the two of us, yet that is currently up for debate.
While I cross my fingers for a generous summer bonus all I can hear is the word ‘recession’ ringing in my ears. A word all financial controllers undoubtedly exploit to full advantage to deprive employees of ‘extra’ funds.
I have a distinct feeling that Bus Eireann and the Luas will become my newest acquaintances in the near future.
I can’t wait…
